What are the marks of a sick culture?

It is a bad sign when the people of a country stop identifying themselves with the country and start identifying with a group. A racial group. Or a religion. Or a language. Anything, as long as it isn't the whole population.

A very bad sign. Particularism. It was once considered a Spanish vice but any country can fall sick with it. Dominance of males over females seems to be one of the symptoms.

Before a revolution can take place, the population must lose faith in both the police and the courts.

High taxation is important and so is inflation of the currency and the ratio of the productive to those on the public payroll. But that's old hat; everybody knows that a county is on the skids when it's income and outgo get out of balance and stay that way - even though there are always endless attempts to wish it away by legislation. But I started looking for little signs and what some call silly-season symptoms.

I want to mention the obvious symptoms: Violence. Muggings. Snipings. Arson. Bombing. Terrorism of any sort. Riots of course - but I suspect that little incidents of violence, pecking away at people day after day, damage a culture even more than riots that flare up and then die down. Oh, conscription and slavery and arbitrary compulsion of all sorts and imprisonment without bail and without speedy trial - but those things are obvious; all the histories list them.

I think you have missed the most alarming symptom of all. This one I shall tell you. But go back and search for it. Examine it. Sick cultures show a complex of symptoms as you have named.... but a dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than a riot.

This symptom is especially serious in that an individual displaying it never thinks of it as a sign of ill health but as proof of his/her strength. Look for it. Study it. It is too late to save this culture - this worldwide culture, not just the freak show here in California. Therefore we must now prepare the monasteries for the coming Dark Age.

questioning creativity

are you actively creating your world? are you floating along in a world of someone else's creation? do you even bother to wonder? what would you choose to create today? where does your creativity live? is it physical? is it spiritual? is it cerebral? can you hear it calling to you? what does it say to you? will you answer? will you invite it to share your world? will you let it make it better?

CREATE SOMETHING TODAY

I HATE YOU!
for getting into my head
HATE myself
for believing the words that you said
head trips and games
deceptions and lies
my only question is why
what was the point? why try so hard?
twisted games with my emotions
so i'd let down my guard.
you spout your beliefs
simply for your own gain
CREATIONIST of illusions,
my love to obtain
let you revel in me
hearing sweet words in my mind
now every syllable decays
and i am no longer blind
cuz your actions don't mesh
with those beliefs held so dear
you have to walk your talk
for all paths to be clear

a truth left unsaid is still a deception

so i'm wondering if i can get your input guys. i'm creating a new dance piece, about love and relationships, and instead of only using my own very jaded ideas i would like to use yours. if you have the time and the inclination, answer these 7 questions and send them to me. i'm building the choreography and the story line from the answers i recieve. i really want to know what the children have to say.

1) List 4 words that define love for you.

2) How do you know that you are loved?

3) How do you know that you love?

4) What is your ideal love?

5) What is your realistic love?

6) What are your expectations of love?

7) How important is love in your life?

NOVEMBER 27TH
Your birth on the 27th day of the month (9 energy) adds a tone of selflessness and humanitarianism to your life path.

Certainly, you are one who can work very well with people, but at the same time you need a good bit of time to be by yourself to rest and meditate.

There is a very humanistic and philanthropic approach in most of things that you do.

This birthday helps you be broadminded, tolerant, generous and very cooperative.

You are the type of person who uses persuasion rather than force to achieve your ends.

You tend to be very sensitive to others' needs and feelings, and you able to give much in the way of friendship without expecting a lot in return
